Club Yearly Report
Fall Bus Tour and
Annual Meeting – Oct.28, 2016 . Our
initial tour schedule didn’t work out quite as planned, but the day turned out
to be fantastic. We started the day at
the farm of Clarence Doerksen who showed us around his new barn, full of Brown
Swiss animals. From there we went to see
Neale Hockley’s farm, where we also enjoyed a pizza lunch. Finally we headed to CFB Shilo where we had a
tour of the Artillery Museum. We held
our Annual Meeting at Donovan Holsteins over lunch.
C.M.H.C Dairy Day – Jan.
25, 2017. Held once again in Carman at the Community Hall. We enjoyed a great day once again. Our morning speaker was Len Vis, from Ontario
speaking on “The Life and Hard Times of Len Vis.” In the afternoon we heard from Paul
Kernaleguen of Saskatchewan on “Dairy Stocksmanship”. Dairy Day continues to be a popular event for
both producers and agribusinesses alike. Our attendance has been steady for the
past number of years.
Judging Clinic – March 31, 2017 at Readore Holsteins. This was another well attended event, with
lots of interaction between official judges and others. Jamie Donohoe and Jon Fornwald were our
judges for the day. This event is also
great for our 4-H members
Awards Night – April
28, 2017 at the Rathwell Community Hall. We changed our awards a bit this year, using mostly DHI reports rather
than having producers submit award forms. This seemed to work out well. Our
entertainer was less the amazing, but the food and company was fantastic!
Central 4-H Dairy
Open Show – July 13, 14 & 15, 2017 was held at the Carman Country
Fair. We hosted our largest Open Show
yet and it went well by all accounts. We
held the 4-H Achievement on Thursday, judged by Sean Smith. The Open Show was held on Friday, judged by
Lee Simanton. Both judges did a great
job and the week was enjoyed by all.
– August 2017 was held again at Treherne Park and Aquatic Centre. We served dinner and had the pool booked for
an hour after that. The pool was a mite
chilly, but the kids loved it! As
always, it is difficult to plan an evening in the summer. We just have to book it, and hope for the
Fall Bus Tour &
Annual Meeting – Oct. 30, 2017 – we plan to visit the Steinbach area –
starting with Michael Andres, then Dirk Weiss, and finally Cliff Banman. We hope to hold our Annual Meeting that day
2018 Dairy Day –
January 31, 2018 at the Carman Community Hall. We have booked Trevor deVries as our keynote speaker, and hope to do a producer
panel in the afternoon.
